On April 3rd, we had the pleasure of hosting a wonderful lecture at the Chinese Cultural Center in Tel Aviv. The lecture, titled "The digital space in China and Chinese Gen-Z's – Not what you thought!", was delivered by Mr. Rom Amir — a consultant for technology companies and start-ups on penetrating the Chinese market — who offered thoughtful insights into China’s fast-changing digital world.
Participants learned about the complexities and uniqueness of China's digital ecosystem, discovering how platforms like WeChat, Alibaba, Douyin (TikTok), and Baidu have transformed consumer behaviors, shaped societal trends, and significantly influenced the culture of Chinese Gen-Z.
The discussion highlighted the remarkable differences between Chinese social media platforms and their Western counterparts, noting China's distinctive integration of social interaction, e-commerce, entertainment, and financial services within these applications, deeply embedded into everyday life.
Looking both at what's happening within China and its global influence, the event highlighted why it’s so important to understand these trends — especially with younger Chinese users playing an increasingly central role in shaping global digital culture.
